Engineering

Lower costs start with an experienced engineering team using the lasted technologies in solidification modeling, mold design, and CAD programming. Our engineering people understand the cost drivers associated with casting geometry pertaining to wall thickness, heavy sections, radii, draft, and coring. We can assist your design engineers in avoiding the pitfalls of the cost drivers while adding design enhancements to improve the casting quality, tooling life, and mechanical properties.

Stahl Specialty can accept engineering data transfer in the follow formats:

Unigraphics NX3 or earlier version (*.prt)
SolidEdge Part file (*.par)
Parasolid (*.x t)
I-DEAS Exchange pack (*.xpk)
IGES (*.igs)
AutoCAD (*.dxf) and (*.dwg)
STEP (*.stp)
Pro Engineer (*.prt.*)
Drawing formats accepted:  JPEG, PDF, CGM, and HPGL

Tolerances

General tolerances are based on the Aluminum Association Standards. Alternate tolerances may be obtainable with considerations to the casting design, casting application, tooling construction, and the casting production process. Additional tolerances are generally required to those listed below across the parting line and for coring applications

Tolerances in a fully CNC machined permanent mold cavity is +/- .015” for the first inch and .002” for each additional inch.
Tolerances in a cast-to-shape permanent mold cavity is +/- .030” for the first inch and .003” for each additional inch.

FLATNESS

Thru 6 inches, within .020”
each additional inch .003” thru 24 inches

DRAFT

3 Degree minimum is standard
