TITLE: FOUNDRY SHIFT SUPERVISOR
REPORTS
TO: Foundry Manager
DEPARTMENT:
0301, 0302 & 0303 Warrensburg North,
South & East Foundries
WORKING
HOURS: 40
hours, plus necessary overtime – Evenings and Night Shift
PURPOSE OF JOB:
To exhibit leadership qualities to company employees and to understand
and have a working knowledge of all jobs within the foundry areas as well as
requirements to meet the department goals and plans.
MAJOR
TASKS:
·
Assist and support the foundry
manager in accomplishing department goals and plans.
·
To exhibit leadership qualities to
company employees. This includes
motivating, training, planning, communicating, problem solving and staffing.
·
To set a good example by
demonstrating those qualities and traits essential for an effective operation.
·
To understand and have a working
knowledge of all jobs in the foundry as required to meet the department goals
and plans.
·
To be capable of filling in when
the manager is absent for a specific period of time.
·
Enforce all company rules and
regulations, initiate necessary discipline, make sure all work areas and
equipment are clean and orderly.
·
Enforce all safety rule and
regulations.
·
To establish performance
expectations of the department employees. To observe and evaluate employees in
meeting those performance standards. To praise good performance and encourage others to improve.
·
To be dedicated to improving
quality and productivity and to constantly seeking more efficient ways to
produce products and services that consistently meet customers' needs.
·
To effectively communicate both in
writing and verbally with all employees.
·
Maintain building security and
arrange for security when supervisor is not present to lock up.
Stop all unauthorized persons from entering the building and escort them
from the area if necessary.
·
Ensure that all people in the area
of responsibility have the required safety equipment and that it is being used
properly.
·
Responsible for the following:
machinery, equipment and building for assigned area, approving daily time
of each assigned employee, monitor production at regular levels to expose
problems and see that quality and quantity are satisfactory, prepare written
requests for maintenance to building or equipment, investigate accidents and
complete accident reports on all accidents in the area of responsibility, make
certain supplies are available or will be available by the required time to meet
production requirements, ensure that all items in the area are properly
identified and stored in a safe, neat, orderly, and productive way.

Make individual work assignments
to accomplish tasks set forth by department manager.
·
Change work assignments on
machines, or priorities based on available information in instances when
something unforeseen happens and the manager is unavailable for consultation.
·
Responsible for expertise and
working knowledge in the following areas: good
foundry practice including mold setup, mold operation, mold maintenance, mold
coatings, masking and scrapping molds, ladling techniques, furnace operation,
machine operation, gassing and degassing techniques, modification alloys and
techniques, furnace charging and cleaning techniques, sawing castings,
processing and filing castings, quality required for each part and special
customer, requirements for these parts which are cast in the area of
responsibility.

Written or verbal reports to
managers on quality problems and resolutions.
WORKER
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
·
2 years management experience
required.
·
High School Diploma or GED, some
college preferred.
·
Some computer experience required.
·
Ability to understand and follow
verbal and written instructions.
·
Ability to communicate effectively
with co-workers, both verbally and in writing.
·
Proficiency in general math for
the accurate development and maintenance of scrap reports, production cards, and
SPC charts.
·
Ability to bend over and lift
castings or ingots.
·
Ability to stand on feet for long
periods of time.
·
Strength in arms, hands and legs
to: remove molds from machines, take castings from the mold, load castings onto
and off of buffing tables, milling/sawing fixtures, and into and out of
palletainers.
JOB
SETTING:
1.
Inside work in hot environment.
2.
Three-shift operation.
3.
Working with 25-35 other individuals, on any one shift, to ensure that
production schedules are met.
PHYSICAL
DEMANDS ANALYSIS:
1.
Standing: Frequent standing
during operation.
2.
Bending:
Frequent bending required to pick up castings or aluminum ingot out of
palletainer, palllet, or off of a Stahl ingot lift.
3.
Lifting: Frequent lifting of
castings or ingot out of mold, palletainer, or pallet.
4.
Carrying: Frequent carrying of
castings, ingot, or slag required while performing foundry operations.
Castings, ingot, or slag weighing between 1 and 45 pounds.
5.
Reaching: Frequent reaching
approx. 24-60 inches vertically in front and to the side of the body to pick up
castings, ingot, or slag.
6.
Hand Tasks: Frequent power
grasp of castings, ingot or slag. Squeeze
force required is between 2-12 pounds. Frequent power grasp, using thumb and all
four fingers to hold and maneuver hand tools required.
7.
Seeing:Constant clear vision
is required for visual inspection of castings, installation of molds, mold
temperature, operation of core pull, pot level on furnaces, operation of
degating mill, and safety in moving
about work area and foundry equipment.
