Stahl Specialty Company is one of the largest permanent mold aluminum foundries in the United States. Our foundries are located in Kingsville and Warrensburg, Missouri. (50 miles southeast of Kansas City) The combined facilities cover approximately eleven acres under roof.

WELDER

Summary of position

To weld repair, rework and process castings.

 

Position is responsible for:

·         Keep all work areas and equipment clean and orderly.

·         Buff flashing from parts, blend gates, and buff to dimension as directed by process sheet.

·         Weld holes and cracks in castings as required.

·         Must be able to perform heli-arc welding.

·         Assembly and production welding.

·         Perform maintenace on heli-arc welders.

·         Monitor welding supplies and advise supervision when orders need to be placed.

·         Use hand file or rotary file to remove flashing from holes.

·         Use hand drill/pneumatic chipper to remove sandcores, where required.

·         Operate shaker, shot blast or large band saw as required to process castings.

·         As directed by process sheet, use gages to verify casting dimensions.

·         Stack castings in appropriate containers for shipping.

·         Count and record number of parts buffed.

·         Record each casting that is scrapped under proper category on hot scrap sheet as castings are scrapped.  Report any cold scrap to Processing Supervisor.

·         Other duties assigned by supervisor.

 

Requirements

JOB SETTING

·         Inside work in noisy environment.

·         Three-shift operation, must be able to work afternoon shift 3:30pm – 11:30 pm.

·         Some dust may be present in the air.

·         Working with other Stahl employees on any one shift.

 

WORKER QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.

·         Strength in arms, hands and legs to move castings as required onto and off of equipment.

·         Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

·         Ability to write legibly.

·         Proficiency in general math for the development and maintenance of statistical process control (SPC) charts, scrap reports and production cards.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

·         Standing:  Constant standing during operation.

·         Climbing Stairs:  Occasional climbing onto and off equipment platforms.

·         Lifting:  Frequent lifting of castings weighing between 1 to 45 pounds.

·         Carrying:  Frequent carrying of castings weighing between 1 to 45 pounds as required between processing operations and equipment.

·         Reaching:  Frequent reaching of approximately 29 to 40 inches in front of body to buff castings, load castings into equipment, or onto table for welding or buffing.

·         Hand Tasks:  Frequent power grasp of buffing equipment.  Use of thumb and fingers is required to hold, maneuver and operate tools as required.  Squeeze force required is between 2 to 10 pounds.

·         Seeing:  Constant clear vision required for visual inspection of castings, set up and operation of equipment, deburring, welding and safe movement in the work area.

 

DUTIES

·         Observe all company rules and regulations.

·         Perform daily production maintenance routines and care of equipment.

·         Help co-workers in adjoining tasks, as time permits.

·         Help in heat treat area as required.

·         General house keeping of department.

·         Report any abnormal conditions to supervisor.

·         Other job assignments as directed by supervisor.

 

EXPERIENCE:

·         Minimum of 18-months experience required.
